George Edward John Mowbray Rous , 3rd Earl of Stradbroke (born November 19, 1862 in London , United Kingdom , † December 20, 1947 in Henham Hall , Suffolk ) was Governor of Victoria in the 1920s .

Life

After studying at Trinity College in Cambridge , which he graduated with a Master's in 1890 , he followed his father as Earl of Stradbroke in 1886 . In 1898 he married Helena Violet Alice Keith Fraser. From 1902 to 1929 he was aide-de-camp for the English monarchs. Queen Alexandra took over the sponsorship of his first son. During the First World War he was in command of several artillery brigades.

From 1921 to 1926 Stradbroke was governor of the Australian state of Victoria. He made many trips that took him across the entire Australian continent and even to Tasmania and New Zealand .

Back in England, Stradbroke served as Parliamentary Secretary for the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries from 1928 to 1929. From 1935 he was Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk County. He died in 1947 at the age of 85.
