Reginald Talbot

Sir Reginald Arthur James Talbot (born July 11, 1841 in London , England , † January 15, 1929 ibid) was a British major general , member of parliament and governor of the Australian state of Victoria .

origin

He was the third son of Henry Chetwynd-Talbot, 18th Earl of Shrewsbury and his wife Sarah Elizabeth Beresford, daughter of Henry de la Poer Beresford, 2nd Marquess of Waterford .

Life

After attending Harrow School , Talbot joined the British Army in 1859 and was promoted to colonel in 1865 . From 1869 to 1874 Talbot was Conservative Member of the House of Commons for the Stafford constituency . Then he went back to the army, fought in the Zulu War and in Egypt and took part in the Gordon Relief Expedition . He served as aide-de-camp for Queen Victoria and was a military attaché in Paris from 1889 to 1895 .

Talbot was Governor of Victoria from April 25, 1904 to July 6, 1908.

He married Margaret Jane Stuart-Whortley († 1937) on May 8, 1877, the second daughter of James Stuart-Whortley and his wife Jane Lawley .
