The Nové Zámky Castle (German New Castle ) is a two-wing neo-baroque building in the village of Nové Zámky in the Dolní Olešnice municipality in the Okres Trutnov , Czech Republic .

geography

The castle is located three kilometers south-east of Hostinné on the northern edge of the Kingdom Forest in the Giant Mountains foreland. It is located on the hill Zámecký vrch (373 m) between the valleys of the Elbe and its tributary Kalenský potok. The Svatá Kateřina (511 m) rises to the east and the Bradlo (519 m) to the south.

history

The Zámecký vrch, at the northern foot of which the Silesian Road leading from Prague via Mladá Boleslav , Jičín , Nová Paka , Olešnice and Trutnov to Silesia crossed the Elbe, was probably fortified in the Middle Ages because of its strategically favorable location. According to Sommer / Zippe, a castle is said to have been built here in 1139 by Duke Soběslav I. The exact location of this castle Hostin Hradec , where the prince died in 1140, is not known. Possible locations are the Na Hradcích (335 m) near Veliny and the Bradlo , Hostinné or Hradec Králové .

Between 1590 and 1608 the owner of the Arnau lordship , Heinrich von Waldstein , had a renaissance castle built on the hill instead of an old fortress, which from then on served as the new lordship seat. Carlo Valmadi, who was working in Arnau at the time and also rebuilding the church in Dolní Olešnice , is considered to be the builder . To distinguish it from the "old" castle Arnau was 1610 Nowy Zamek , 1611 as New Castle , 1638 as Newschloß , 1639 as Newschlosz and 1669 as Neyschloß referred. After the Battle of White Mountain , the castle fell to Albrecht von Waldstein in 1623 , who brought it into his Duchy of Friedland in 1625 . After his assassination in 1634, the Arnau lordship and the castle were sold to Guillaume Lamboy de Desseneur ( Wilhelm von Lamboi ) the following year . In modern literature, Lamboy is often mentioned as the builder of the castle. Subsequent owners were from 1684 Octavian Kinsky von Wchinitz and Tettau and from 1699 his son Wenzel Norbert Octavian. These were followed from 1706 by Count Morzin and from 1719 by Count Schlick . In 1750 Maximilian Graf Lamberg acquired the rule; from him it passed in 1758 to Maria Anna von Schaffgotsch , from whom the property passed to the Counts of Bolza in 1762. After Joseph Count von Bolza's widow had the rule bid, it was acquired in 1799 by Franz Count Deym von Střítež . After his death, the rule passed to his son of the same name in 1832. His son Franz Count Deym von Střítež had the castle extensively redesigned between 1880 and 1890.

The castle was last used as an eye clinic and was owned by the Trutnov Association of Sanatoriums and Hospitals until 2010. In the course of the liquidation of Oční léčebna Nové Zámky spol. sro , the Ventus company owned by Russian businessman Alexei Sakharov acquired the property. This closed the palace gardens in September 2011 and at the same time blocked the public roads around the palace.

Building

In 1835 the castle was described as being surrounded by circular walls and moats, as well as having a tower and a clock . The palace area also included a large park on the north and east side of the palace hill and the St. Johann von Nepomuk palace chapel.

The palace was given its current shape from a combination of Renaissance and Neo-Baroque elements during the renovation between 1880 and 1890. The addition of the south wing gave it an L-shaped floor plan. The polygonal castle tower forms the eastern corner of the building. Remains of fortifications and a retaining wall have been preserved. There are statues of St. Johannes von Nepomuk and Florian von Johann Brokoff from the beginning of the 18th century. The castle area is protected as a cultural monument.
