Alex O'Loughlin (born August 24, 1976 in Canberra as Alexander O'Lachlan ) is an Australian actor who gained notoriety for appearing on The Shield and starring in the series Moonlight and Hawaii Five-0 .

Life

Alex O'Loughlin works as an actor in film, television and theater. He trained at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) in Sydney and graduated in 2002 with a Bachelor of Arts. In 2003 he took on a small role in an episode of the television series White Collar Blue . In Oyster Farmer from 2004, he plays a man who hires as an oyster farmer to pay the drug bills for his sister and almost perishes. He then worked in the television film Black Jack: Sweet Science and shortly thereafter in the horror film The Man-Thing . The film is based on a lesser known Marvel comic book. His next project was the low-budget thriller Feed , in which he plays a serial killer who feeds his victims to death.

Although none of these films achieved great success, O'Loughlin became more and more popular in Australia. He starred in television films such as White Collar Blue (2002) and Love Bytes (2004). In the successful Australian Showtime miniseries The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant, he got the part of Will Bryant, the husband of the main character. The series is about the first British prisoners who were relocated to Australia in the late 17th century. He was nominated for several film awards for his portrayal. In addition, he repeatedly played theater, including in Jarrabin , Country Music or Faust is Dead .

O'Loughlin also auditioned for the role of James Bond , but lost the part to Daniel Craig . He made his Hollywood debut as one half of The Kissing Couple in Love Needs No Vacation with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet . His entry into the American film and television business he gave with seven episodes as the successor to the police officer Victor "Vic" Mackey ( Michael Chiklis ) in the series The Shield - Law of Violence .

He got a role in the teenage thriller Invisible - Between Two Worlds . He also played the brother of the main character Jonathan Rhys Meyers in The Sound of the Heart . The series was canceled after the first season because of the low success. According to his own account, O'Loughlin had taken on the role to educate people about organ transplantation. In May 2010, O'Loughlin starred in American cinemas alongside Jennifer Lopez in the romantic comedy Plan B für die Liebe (The Back-up Plan) . Filming began in May 2009 and the German theatrical release was on May 13, 2010.

From 2010 to 2020 O'Loughlin played in Hawaii Five-0 , the remake of Hawaii Five-O , the lead role of Steve McGarrett . Since 2018 he has also directed three episodes. Alex O'Loughlin decided not to renew his expiring contract for an eleventh season.

Alex O'Loughlin has been married to model Malia Jones since April 2014. The couple have a son (* 2012). O'Loughlin has another son from a previous relationship.
