Alex Renard

Alex Renard (* around 1900; † unknown) was a French jazz musician ( trumpet ) who was employed in the French swing orchestras in the 1930s and 1940s .

Live and act

In the mid-1920s, Renard was a member of the Paris Orchester de Jazz du Moulin-Rouge under the direction of Fréd (éric) Mélé, in which trombonist Guy Paquinet also played (“Zuzuland”). In the following years Renard u. a. in the orchestras of Ray Ventura (“Let's Do It”, Odeon), Léo Poll , Marceau van Hoorebeke ( Le Jazz Pathe-Natan ), 1932/33 with Lud Gluskin and 1934 in the Ensemble Jazz du poste Parisien , Fred Adison , Michel Warlop , Germaine Sablon and at Wal-Berg et son Jazz Français . In 1934 he also took part in recordings of Django Reinhardt (" Tiger Rag "), the Quintette du Hot Club de France ("Dinah").

In the second half of the 1930s Renard accompanied the singer Jean Sablon (“Miss Otis Regrets”, Columbia) with Reinhardt and Garland Wilson , and in the Michel Warlop orchestra the young vocalist Le Petit Mirsha on songs such as “Petit homme, c'est l 'heure de faire dodo ”or“ Maman, ne vends pas la maison! ”, as well as the saxophonist Coleman Hawkins during his stay in Paris on March 2, 1935 (“ Blue Moon ”). During this phase he played with Patrick et Son Orchester (directed by Guy Paquinet), with Alain Romans et Son Jazz du Poste Parisien , and in the orchestras of Michel Emer , Willie Lewis and John Ellsworth ("East of the Sun", with Adelaide) Hall ), Jacques Hélian , Wal-Berg ("Tout me sourit", with Charles Trenet ) and finally in 1940 with Alix Combelle and His Swing Band, with Charles Delaunay alias HP Chadel as drummer.

In March 1940 Renard met Django Reinhardt again in the studio; in “At the Jimmy's Bar” he can be heard with the rhythm section and Alix Combelle (clarinet) as bass trumpeter . In the early 1940s he was also a member of the orchestras and jazz ensembles of Raymond Legrand and Raymond Wraskoff , Hubert Rostaing and Christian Wagner. On February 24, 1941, Renard recorded for the first time under his own name with a jazz ensemble ( Alex Renard et son orchester ), which included Roger Fisbach , Maurice Cizeron , Coco Kiehn , Hubert Rostaing , Noël Chiboust , Joseph Reinhardt , Maurice Speileux and Pierre Fouad . In 1946 Renard was involved in jam sessions with Lucien Philip , Harry Perret , Léo Chauliac , Henri Crolla , Roger "Toto" Grasset , Arthur Motta and Emmanuel Soudieux; In 1953 he took part in Combelle's orchestra with the trumpeter Buck Clayton, who was a guest in Paris ( Buck's Mood ). He played in Paris from 1921 to 1972.
