Alex Rider is a British agent thriller television series based on the novel ofthe same name by Anthony Horowitz . The eight-part first season has beenavailableon Prime Video since June 4, 2020 in the United Kingdom and since August 7, 2020 in Germany. It is about the London teenager Alex Rider, who is recruited as an agent by a sub-organization of the British secret service MI6 after the death of his uncle. A second season has already been announced and will likely appear in 2021.

Alex's uncle Ian Rider, an agent in the Secret Intelligence Service's special operations division (MI6), is killed during a mission. His superiors blackmail Alex into agreeing to infiltrate a boarding school for difficult-to-raise children from rich and influential parents, thus continuing his uncle's investigation.

In May 2017, Variety magazine reported that Eleventh Hour Films had secured the film rights for the novel series Alex Rider and intends to produce the series for streaming providers. Guy Burt was hired out as a showrunner .
In July 2019, the magazine reported that Eleventh Hour Films was planning an eight-part season with Sony Pictures Television . This should be based on Point Blanc, the second book in the book series. Horowitz has been announced as executive producer . Sony took care of raising funds and finding a platform for broadcasting the series.
In September 2019, a first teaser of the series and an Instagram page were published. Otto Farrant, Brenock O'Connor, Stephen Dillane, Vicky McClure, Andrew Buchan, Ronkẹ Adékoluẹjo, Ace Bhatti and Nyasha Hatendi have been announced as cast. Directors should be Andreas Prochaska and Christopher Smith . The series was filmed in London and the scenes in the French Alps, in the area around Sinaia in Prahova County , Romania .

At IMDb , the series is rated 7.5 out of 10 stars. The series achieved 90% in the Rotten Tomatoes community rating .
Tim Krüger on Serienjunkies.de : "The coming-of-age and espionage genre will certainly not be completely turned on its head with groundbreaking ideas, but on the other hand you deliver a really decent debut that doesn't really go wrong So if you like to get lost in the world of the secret services and their exchanges of blows, you have a good chance of being entertained here. "
The film service awarded two out of five possible stars after the first season and criticized the fact that although the series was based on its adult role models James Bond and Jason Bourne, "due to dramaturgical negligence", however, wasted its chance, "with the young protagonist Open up perspective. "
