Alexander Magnus von Sydow (* May 17, 1622 , † April 7, 1679 ) was Kurbrandenburg colonel and chief of the body regiment on horseback and heir to Gossow, Falkenwalde and Ortwig.

Life

origin

His parents were Hans von Sydow († June 8, 1635), Herr auf Schönfeldt and Gossow and his wife Dorothea von der Osten .

Military career

He was in the imperial service in 1644 and was promoted to captaincy in Brandenburg in 1652 and to colonel in 1675.

During the Dutch War , on January 8, 1675, Sydow commanded two to three companies of dragoons as a lieutenant colonel , which were quartered in the village of Ellmendingen . French horsemen and dragoons from Philippsburg wanted to take the opportunity and attack the troops. But that failed. While retreating, the French encountered the Mörner and Prinz regiments and were almost completely wiped out.

He was wounded in the battle of Fehrbellin on June 28, 1675. In 1677 he took over the dragoon regiment from Colonel Görzke . When Ulrich Hipparchos von Promnitz, who had previously been in charge of the Leib regiment on horseback , changed to Saxon services in 1679 , Sydow became the regiment's chief. But he died on April 7, 1679.

He was the heir to Gassow, Bellgen and 1/4 of Rehdorf, which he sold to Curd Siegmund von Sydow in 1651. From Joachim Christoph von Sydow he inherited half of Graefendorf and Falkenwalde. He then bought the other half from the guardian of Christian Bernhard von Sydow .

family

He was married twice. His first wife was Anna Sophia von der Marwitz , a daughter of Balthasar von der Marwitz auf Sellin and Anna von Schönebeck . The couple had several children:

  • Hans Balthasar († 1700)
⚭ 1681 Luise von der Marwitz, from the Bärfelde house
⚭ 1696 Anna Maria von Winterfeldt (* October 11, 1680; † January 25, 1725)
  • Anna Emerentia (* 1654) ⚭ Ernst Christian von Ihlow (* June 5, 1648 - † February 15, 1697) on Ihlow
  • Catharina Elisabeth († June 12, 1714) ⚭ 1692 Joachim Siegmund von der Marwitz (* December 9, 1657; † June 4, 1710) from the Diedersdorf family

After the death of his first wife, he married Eva Sophia von Dewitz on September 5, 1670 (* 1649 - January 22, 1691). The couple had several children:

  • Georg Wilhelm († 1717)
  • Alexander († young)
  • Stefan Bernhard († young)
  • Sabine Luise

In 1681 the widow married the chamberlain of the Brandenburg Electorate of Brandenburg, Zacharias Friedrich von Götzen († 1682), Lord of Rosenthal and son of Chancellor Sigismund von Götzen . After he died, in 1684 she married Joachim Siegmund von der Marwitz (* December 9, 1657; † November 4, 1710), Lord of Rosenthal and Diedersdorf.

In the church in Gossow there was an epitaph of Alexander Magnus von Sydow until the 1920s, with trophies, coats of arms and angels wearing the aristocratic crown.
