Joachim Ernst von Görzke (also Görtzke; born April 11, 1611 in Bollersdorf ; † March 27, 1682 in Küstrin ) was a lieutenant general from Brandenburg .

Life

Joachim Ernst von Görzke was born in 1611 as the son of Joachim von Görzke, who was the master of Bollersdorf. His mother was Elisabeth von Wichmannsdorff.

As early as 1620 he became a noble boy of Princess Maria Eleonora of Brandenburg and went with her to Sweden when she married King Gustav Adolf of Sweden . In 1623 he became the king's page and in 1628 joined the Swedish bodyguard as a rider . From 1630 to 1648 he fought on the side of the Swedish army in the Thirty Years' War : he took part in the Battle of Breitenfeld in 1631 and was promoted to cornet on September 17, 1631 for his bravery . He survived the battle of Lützen in 1632, seriously wounded, fought in the battle of Wittstock and in campaigns in Silesia and Austria . In 1634 he became chief of a company of riders in the regiment of General Adam von Pfuel and in 1641 Lieutenant Colonel . In 1645 he was given command of a cavalry regiment as a colonel and retired from military service as such in 1648.

Von Görzke lived on his estate until 1656, but then returned to active service - now as major general on the Brandenburg side. He took part in the Battle of Warsaw . From 1661 in Prussia he became governor of Memel on May 9, 1664 . From 1672 to 1679 campaigns against the French and the invading Swedes followed , such as the battle of Fehrbellin and the raid of Rathenow , the sieges of Wolgast , Anklam , Demmin and Stettin , and the capture of Greifswald . Later he defended Prussia against the Swedes invading from Livonia under General Horn and almost completely destroyed them in the hunt across the Curonian Lagoon . On December 2, 1675 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on December 27, 1677 governor of Küstrin , where he died a good four years later.

He had been married to Lucie von Schlieben since May 2, 1654 , who died on April 28, 1659. His daughter Maria Elisabeth married the royal court marshal Johann Georg von der Marwitz and the youngest daughter Lucie Hedwig married the general Friedrich Ulrich Wilhelm von Lüderitz . Middle daughter Barbara died young.
