Alexander Paley

Alexander Paley (born January 9, 1956 in Chișinău , Soviet Union ) is a Soviet pianist.

Alexander Paley began playing the piano at the age of six and gave his first concert at the age of 13. He won a national music award and then studied with Bella Davidowitsch and Vera Gornostayeva at the Moscow Conservatory . Paley won numerous international competitions, he received first prize at the Leipzig Bach Competition in 1984 and the Bösendorfer Prize in 1986 and the first Pancho Vladigerov Competition in Bulgaria .

In 1988 he emigrated to the USA. As a soloist and chamber musician, he has given concerts in Europe, America and China. He has performed with artists such as Mstislaw Rostropowitsch , Boris Pergamenschikow , Bella Davidovich and Dmitri Sitkowetski and has worked with major orchestras such as the Gewandhausorchester , the Concertgebouw Orchestra , the Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theater , the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra , the Orchester National de France and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra as well as other well-known symphony orchestras in the USA. He also performed at various music festivals and founded his own festival, the Alexander Paley Festival , which first took place in 2011 in Moldova .

His repertoire includes both classical concert literature and modern works. He played various world premieres such as piano concertos by Sheila Silver in Carnegie Hall and by Jean-Louis Agobet with the Strasbourg Philharmonic .

Paley is married to the pianist Peiwen Chen .
