Alexander Jakowlewitsch Rosenbaum or Rozenbaum ( Russian Александр Яковлевич Розенбаум , scientific transliteration Aleksandr Jakovlevič Rozenbaum ; born September 13, 1951 in Leningrad ) is a Russian artist , bard and chanson singer .

Life

Alexander Rosenbaum's parents graduated from the medical university in 1952 . The family moved to East Kazakhstan to a small town called Syrianovsk , where the father quickly rose to become chief physician. Brother Wladimir Rosenbaum was born there. At the age of 5, Alexander attended a music school and learned to play the violin there. The Rosenbaum family later moved back to Saint Petersburg.

Alexander's grandmother's neighbor, Mikhail Alexandrovich Mini (Михаил Александрович Мини) taught Alexander the first chords. When he was around 16, Alexander began to write his first poems on the subject of school and home and made his classmates laugh with his humor . He then heard and sang songs by Vysotsky and Okudschawa himself, as well as forbidden songs by Galitsch.

In 1968 Alexander was enrolled at the medical college, where he sang his poems to his fellow students. In his first semester , Alexander gave concerts in the local cultural center and was awarded a prize for this.

Astigmatism and his nearsightedness did not allow Alexander to join the army - instead he was transferred to the post-operative department for the most seriously injured.

Alexander's first marriage lasted only 9 months. A year after the divorce , he married Jelena Savschinskaya, a fellow student at the same medical university where Alexander studied. After a while the Rosenbaum family had offspring, a daughter named Anna. In 1974 he passed the state exams brilliantly. Specialty: anesthesia and resuscitation . From then on he worked as a doctor in the ambulance for five years . During this time he attended a jazz school in the evenings , which he also graduated after a while.

Alexander himself says that as long as singing was just a hobby, it was okay for the doctor in him. But when singing seemed to become a second profession, he had to choose.

“I sat on two chairs. Not only was it uncomfortable, but it wasn't honest either. I'm either a doctor or a singer. "

The beginning of his solo career can be dated to October 14, 1983. He sang in front of an audience in the MWD's House of Culture .

Career on stage

During his 23 years on stage, Rosenbaum wrote over 480 songs and poems and recorded almost 100 albums, some with more than 15 songs per album. A song that is on an album could find a place on a new album a few years later. However, a song received various musical interpretations. For this reason, the same songs exist in up to eight different versions.

On stage he usually plays solo on a 12-string guitar in open G tuning or a piano .

Alexander Rosenbaum is highly valued in Russia and, as one of the few representatives of Russian chanson, is a permanent guest on the big New Year's shows on television, which are otherwise almost exclusively reserved for artists from the pop world . In addition, he is one of the few who do not mime to playback, but practically always sing live.

During his career, Alexander Rosenbaum performed worldwide, especially in the former Soviet Union ( Ukraine , Belarus , Kazakhstan and others), in Germany and in the USA .

Since the 1980s, many of Alexander Rosenbaum's songs have been sung by amateur singers in the private circle of friends or family, such as folk songs , in the area of the former Soviet Union . Some of his works achieved cult status . But a number of other interpreters of Russian chanson and the pop scene have also achieved great success with their versions of Alexander Rosenbaum's songs. A well-known example is Michail Schufutinski , to whom Rosenbaum dedicated entire albums.
