Alexander Wiegold

Alexander Wiegold (* 1979 in Münster ) is a German director .

Wiegold first studied music, then film and theater studies in Bochum and Zurich . Since 2006 he has been working as an assistant director, first at the Schauspielhaus Zurich , the Theater Neumarkt and since 2009 also at the Burgtheater in Vienna . At the Schauspielhaus in 2009 he directed “Alpenglow” by Peter Turrini .

In the 2011/12 season he directed his own adaptation of the classic science fiction novel Solaris based on Stanislaw Lem in the vestibule of the Burgtheater. From 2012 to 2015 he staged the "Red Ribbon Celebration Concert" at the Burgtheater Vienna , which opened the Life Ball .

He has worked with the Austrian playwright Ferdinand Schmalz , which has led to various invitations to festivals, "Am Example der Butter" in 2015 at the Autorentheatertage in Berlin and "Der Herzerlfresser" in 2017 at the Heidelberger Stückemarkt .

At the Ruhrfestspiele Recklinghausen in 2017 he staged the scenic-musical project "Egmont / Prometheus" with Sebastian Koch in the lead role, where he also wrote the text together with Christopher Hampton .
