Alexander von Boetticher

Alexander Friedrich Johann von Boetticher (born December 10, 1812 in Tuckum , † September 25, 1893 in Riga ) was an engineer - officer and builder of the new Rigas port .

Life

Alexander was the son of the German-Baltic Instance Secretary Friedrich von Boetticher (1770-1831) from the Courland line of the Boetticher family and his wife Agnes, née Pusin (1785-1858). His father's younger brother was the Russian general Gustav von Boetticher .

Alexander von Boetticher attended school in Tuckum, today's Tukums / Lithuania. After graduating from school, he received a scholarship at the engineering school for transport in St. Petersburg, which he left in 1831 as an engineer lieutenant . In the same year his uncle Gustav von Boetticher took over the management. He was then used in the engineering corps for various hydraulic engineering works on the course of the Windau river . In 1842, as major of Telechnay in the Minsk governorate , he directed work on the construction of the Oginsk Canal , which connects the Dnieper with the Memel . Promoted to Colonel in 1859 , Alexander von Boetticher was assigned to the port construction work in Libau from 1864 to 1875 and has been an inspector here for the last few years. In 1875 he switched to the Duna regulatory work as an inspector, and from 1887 to 1889 he was the highest employer of this unit based in Riga. In this function he is considered to be the builder of the new Riga port and was honored for this, after his appointment as Privy Councilor , when he retired in 1889 by naming the city steamship “Privy Councilor Alexander von Boetticher”. In addition, Boetticher was awarded the Order of St. Stanislaus I Class , the Order of St. Anne II. Class and the Order of St. Vladimir III. Class excellent.

family

Alexander von Boetticher married Feodora Baronesse von der Osten on August 19, 1837 in Goldingen , called Sacken (1816–1883) with whom he had four children. The son Paul von Boetticher (1846–1922) was a councilor and active in the St.Petersburg general consitorium. He is the grandfather of the German zoologist Hans von Boetticher (1886-1958) and the professor and student councilor Kurt von Boetticher (1876-1944).

Alexander von Boetticher died in Riga on September 25, 1893.
