Josef Alexander Heinrich Otto Prince of Schönburg-Hartenstein (born March 5, 1826 in Vienna ; † October 1, 1896 there ) was an Austro-Hungarian diplomat, politician and landowner.

Life

Alexander came from the German noble family von Schönburg . He was the son of Prince (Heinrich) Eduard von Schönburg-Hartenstein (1787–1872) and second wife Aloisia Princess von Schwarzenberg (1803–1884).

Prince Alexander began his career in the diplomatic service in 1847 as an attaché in the Hague ( The Hague ), then worked in London in 1849 , in Berlin from 1850 , where he was appointed Honorary Legation Secretary in 1851 , and in Paris from 1852 . At the beginning of 1855 he came to Karlsruhe as a further legation secretary , but was promoted to envoy a few months later - also in connection with his impending marriage. From 1859 to 1863 he headed the embassy in Munich . At the end of 1863 he entered availability at his own request and retired to his Bohemian and Moravian ones. Goods back. From 1872 to 1882 he was a member of the Bohemian state parliament and in 1881/82 he was chairman of the Club of Constitutionally Loyal Landowners. After the death of his father in 1872, he inherited his seat in the manor house and began a wide range of political activities for the party that adhered to the Constitution. In 1879 he was elected vice-president of the manor and remained so until his death.

On June 3, 1855, he married Princess Caroline Josephine Princess von und zu Liechtenstein (1836-1885) in Vienna . Several children emerged from the marriage:

  • Johannes Prince of Schönburg-Hartenstein (* September 12, 1864 - March 30, 1937).
