Alexander von Weiss

Alexander Karl Clemens von Weiss (born October 22, 1840 in Uchten in Estonia , † November 25, 1921 in Wardes in Estonia) was a German-Baltic engineer , landowner and politician .

Born as the son of Major General Alexander von Weiss, landlord of Uchten in Estonia, and his wife Elisabeth, born von Wrangell , Alexander von Weiss attended the Knight and Cathedral School in Reval , where he graduated from high school in 1860 . From the summer semester 1861 to the summer semester 1862 he studied mathematics at the University of Dorpat and from the winter semester 1862 to the summer semester 1865 astronomy . At the beginning of his studies he became a member of Estonia Dorpat . After graduation, he studied civil engineering at the Karlsruhe Polytechnic from the winter semester 1865 to the summer semester 1867 . Initially paying guest, he was made an honorary member of the Baltica Karlsruhe in early 1866 .

After completing his studies, he worked from 1867 to 1873 as an engineer building the southern Russian railways for Baron C. von Ungern-Sternberg. From 1874 to 1879 he was involved in the construction of the Alexander Bridge in Saint Petersburg . From 1880 to 1885 he was an engineer building the port in Reval . Since 1881 he was the owner of the Wardes estate near Wesenberg , which he handed over to his older son Konstantin in 1905. From 1902 to 1912 he was a permanent member of the Estonian Road Commission.

family

Von Weiss had been married to Countess Nieroth , born Alexandrine , daughter of the cavalry general Alexander Count Nieroth , since 1869 . The marriage resulted in four daughters and two sons. His older son was later the commander of the Baltic regiment Konstantin von Weiss .
