In 2005 and 2006 he took part in three other international junior championships and won a medal in a duel. He achieved his greatest success in 2006 when he became European Junior Champion (U 20) in the middleweight duel in Palermo . His performance at that time was 155 kg in snatch and 185 kg in jerk, so 340 kg in a duel.

In 2008 he started for the first time at an international senior championship. In pushing he was even European champion with 200 kg . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he was not used.

In 2009 he switched to the light heavyweight division and achieved in February 2009 in a national competition in Vladikavkaz in this weight class 370 kg (165-205). He was then used at the European Championships that year in Bucharest and reached there in the light heavyweight duel 369 kg (164-205), with which he was before Intigam Zairow , Azerbaijan , 368 kg (168-200) and Mikalai Novikau , Belarus , 367 kg (166–201), became European champion . He also became European champion in pushing.

Alexei Jufkin was injured several times in the period that followed and was unable to take part in the 2009 and 2010 Russian championships and the 2009 World Cup and the 2010 European Championship. Recovered, he was back at the 2010 World Cup in Antalya and presented himself there in excellent shape. He scored 172 kg in the snatch and 208 kg in the jerk and just missed 212 kg in his third attempt, with which he would have become world champion in a duel . With his performance of 380 kg in a duel, however, he became vice world champion.

In 2011 he was again European light heavyweight champion in Kazan with 385 kg (170-215) and also won the title in pushing with 215 kg. Second place went to his compatriot Apti Auchadow , who also brought 385 kg (173-212) to the high distance, but was a little heavier.
