Alexei Remowitsch Chochlow ( Russian Алексе́й Ре́мович Хохло́в ; born January 10, 1954 in Moscow ) is a Soviet - Russian polymer physicist and university professor .

Life

Khokhlov, son of physicist Rem Viktorovich Khokhlov , studied after the conclusion of the Moscow 2. Physical-Mathematical School in 1971 Physics at the Physics Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University with degree in 1977. He then served aspirant at Ilya Lifshitz and developed together with him and Alexander Grosberg developed a theory of the coil-droplet transition in polymers and biopolymer systems using conformational entropy and density functional theory . In 1979 Chochlow became a candidate for sciencePhD and became a lecturer at Lomonosov University. In 1983 Chochlow received his doctorate in science .

In 1988 Chochlow was appointed professor at Lomonosov University. In 1990 he became a Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR . Since 1993 he has headed the chair for polymer physics and crystal physics . In 2000 he became a full member of the now Russian Academy of Sciences and also a member of the Academia Europaea . Since 2008 he has been Vice Rector of Lomonosov University.

In 1992 Chochlow received the Humboldt Research Award , which included a six-month research stay in 1993 at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research . In 2001, Ulm University successfully nominated him for the Wolfgang Paul Prize of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research . With the prize money, Chochlow set up the Institute for Polymer Science as honorary professor at Ulm University from 2002–2004 . From this institute emerged the Institute for Advanced Energy Related Nanomaterials in 2012 in the German-Russian Year for Education, Science and Innovation , which Chochlow founded with Ulm and Moscow professors.

At the beginning of June 2017 he was made a candidate for the presidency of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAW), but was not allowed to stand in the main election in September. Even so, Chochlow was elected one of the academy's vice presidents.
