Alexei Sergejewitsch Selesnjow ( Russian Алексей Сергеевич Селезнёв , scientific transliteration Aleksej Sergeevič Seleznev , also French: Alex Selesnev ; * 1888 in Tambow ; † June 1967 in Bordeaux ) was a French chess master and study composer of Russian origin.

Chess player

Seleznjow's active time falls in the years 1913 to 1927, when he took part in many important chess tournaments . In 1919 he finished second behind Efim Bogoljubow in a tournament in Berlin , but ended up ahead of Richard Réti and Rudolf Spielmann . In the spring of 1920 he won a tournament of the Berlin Chess Society in front of Friedrich Sämisch . He also achieved good success in Gothenburg in 1920, Mährisch-Ostrau in 1923 and in Meran in 1924. He took part in three USSR championships (1924, 1925 and 1927), and he had his best result in 1924 when he was sixth. In 1927 he took first place in the Ukrainian championship out of competition.

Selesnjow, who during the international tournament in Mannheim 1914 because of the beginning of the First World War in Triberg a . a. was interned with Alexander Alekhine , Efim Bogoljubow and Ilja Rabinowitsch , spent many years in Germany and played several competitions: 1916 in Triberg against Hans Fahrni 3: 3 (+2 = 2 −2), in 1917 at the same place against Efim Bogoljubow 3.5 : 4.5 (+2 = 3 −3), 1920 in Berlin against Curt von Bardeleben 4: 2 (+2 = 4 −0), 1921 in Berlin against Richard Teichmann 1.5: 0.5 (+1 = 1 −0).

In 1924 Seleznyov returned to the Soviet Union. At the end of the 1920s he ended his chess career and lived in Stalino from 1930 to 1942 . During the German occupation he worked as an interpreter in the municipal office. With the advance of the Red Army , he feared that he would be accused of collaboration and, with the support of Bogolyubov, initially moved to Triberg. He later settled in France . In addition to tournament chess, chess composition was his passion. He published ingenious studies until the 1950s.

His best historical rating was 2619, which he achieved in January 1920.
