Alexis-Armand Cardinal Charost (born November 14, 1860 in Le Mans , France , † November 7, 1930 in Rennes ) was Archbishop of Rennes .

Life

Alexis-Armand Charost studied in Le Mans , Rome and Angers trays Catholic theology and philosophy . He received on 19 May 1883, the sacrament of Holy Orders , and then taught as a teacher at a Catholic school. From 1892 to 1894 he was director of a Catholic boarding school and from 1894 to 1899 he was the personal secretary of the Archbishop of Rennes. From 1909 to 1913 he headed the administration of the Archdiocese of Rennes as vicar general .

On 14 February 1913 Pope appointed him Pius X to the titular bishop of Miletopolis and auxiliary bishop in Cambrai to the jurisdiction of a vicar general for the diocese of Lille . He received his episcopal ordination on May 13, 1913 in the Cathedral of Rennes Auguste-René Dubourg , Archbishop of Rennes , co-consecrators were François Delamaire , Archbishop of Cambrai , and Olivier de Durfort , Bishop of Langres . His episcopal motto was: Per ipsam, cum ipsa, in ipsa (“Through him and with him and in him”). In the same year Alexis-Armand Charost became the first bishop of Lille. In 1920 Pope Benedict XV appointed him . Titular Archbishop of Chersonesus in Zechia and Coadjutor Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Rennes, whose leadership he took over in 1921. Pope Pius XI took him on December 11, 1922 as a cardinal priest with the titular church Santa Maria della Vittoria in the college of cardinals .

Alexis-Armand Charost died on November 7, 1930 in Rennes and was buried in the local basilica .
