Alfoz de Lara

The Alfoz de Lara is a historical community association in the high valley of the Río Arlanza in the mountains of the Sierra de la Demanda in the southeast of the province of Burgos . From the 11th to the 14th centuries he formed the basis of the power of the House of Lara .

history

The existence of this association as a legal entity goes back at least to the year 912, when it was first documented. In the 11th century he was the oldest and largest of the Alfoces in the Kingdom of Castile . An apparently forged document from the monastery of San Pedro de Arlanza assigns him a far larger area than any other source.
