Alfred Dumont

August-Paul-Emile-Etienne Dumont , also Alfred Du Mont (born June 13, 1828 in Baulmes , Canton Vaud ; † August 7, 1894 in Geneva ), was a Swiss landscape and genre painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Dumont first studied law. Under Jean-Léonard Lugardon , he turned to painting in Geneva. Then he followed his friends Jean-Jules Adrien Kunkler and Benjamin Vautier to Düsseldorf . From 1852 to 1854 he studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy with Karl Ferdinand Sohn and Christian Köhler . He belonged to the Düsseldorf artists' association Malkasten in the years 1853/1854. He then stayed for a long time in Charles Gleyre's studio in Paris . He then made several trips, in 1892 a trip around the world, on which he became seriously ill. Dumont has regularly participated in French and Swiss exhibitions since 1867. His works can be found in renowned museums in Geneva, Basel and Bern .
