Jean-Jules Adrien Kunkler

Jean-Jules Adrien Kunkler (* 1829 in Morges , Canton of Vaud ; † December 26, 1866 in Geneva ) was a Swiss genre and landscape painter from the Düsseldorf School .

Life

Kunkler, son of a family from St. Gallen , began his training as a painter in Geneva under Jean-Léonard Lugardon (1801–1884) and the landscape painter Jean Charles Ferdinand Humbert (1813–1881). In 1850 he began studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy , at the same time as his friend Benjamin Vautier , which he finished in 1852. At the Düsseldorf Academy, where his friend Alfred Dumont followed him in 1852 , Karl Ferdinand's son was his most important teacher. From 1850 to 1854 he was a member of the Malkasten artists' association . In 1854 he returned to Geneva, where he exhibited his picture selling his favorite sheep. Then Kunkler made trips to Savoy , Provence and Spain , where he stayed in Palma ( Balearic Islands ) and Barcelona in 1855 . In 1858 he returned to Geneva from these trips. He married in October 1862. During the last years of his life, he lived with his family in the summer at Ostier Castle at the foot of the Voiron.
