Alfred Hoppe (painter)

Alfred Hoppe (born October 1, 1906 in Colditz , † August 9, 1985 in Leipzig ) was a German painter and graphic artist . He is considered a co-inventor of the hand-drawn illustrated maps printed in the form of postcards .

The painter and graphic artist, who lives in Leipzig , had the idea of designing illustrated postcards with colorful maps from all the vacation areas of the GDR, which were published by VEB Volkskunstverlag Reichenbach in Vogtland from 1954 , later renamed VEB Bild und Heimat, the largest postcard publisher in the GDR high editions have appeared. 68 illustrated holiday cards or cheerful patchworks come from his pen. His cards are still coveted collectibles today and were later copied by other graphic artists. Hoppe is also the creator of the crispbread packaging for the burger crispbread .

  • Hoppe created the postcard “Between Collm and Mulde” at the suggestion of Manfred Müller, the long-time editor of “Der Rundblick. Kulturspiegel der Kreis Wurzen, Oschatz, Grimma ”and because of its assurance that the editors would order a few hundred copies from the publisher.
