Haig Latchinian (* 1968 in Leipzig ) is a German journalist and author with Armenian roots on his father's side. As local editor of the Leipziger Volkszeitung he writes articles and reports mainly for the Muldental edition of this newspaper.

Life

Haig Latchinian grew up in Leipzig's residential area " Straße des 18. Oktober ". In 1987 he successfully completed the Abitur course at the children's and youth sports school in Leipzig (today: Landesgymnasium für Sport Leipzig ). From grades 3 to 13 he played football as a midfielder at 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig and was twice GDR champion with his team (1981 and 1984).

Before and after basic military service with the National People's Army , he completed a traineeship at Radio DDR , Sender Leipzig. In 1989 Latchinian began a university course in the journalism section of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig . During his studies in 1992 he completed an internship in the Sachsenspiegel editorial team at MDR television. In the Bundesliga season 1993/1994 he worked as a stadium announcer for VfB Leipzig .

After completing his studies in 1994, the Leipziger Volkszeitung hired him as an editor. He worked for the editorial offices in Leipzig, Eilenburg and Döbeln and has been in Wurzen and Grimma since 1995 . Latchinian lives in Wurzen.

Haig Latchinian is the younger son from the marriage of Sarkis Latchinian (1930–2012) - an Armenian whose parents only barely survived the genocide of the Armenians - with the German Adelheid Latchinian nee. Skonietzki. His mother passed the best Abitur in Weimar in 1955 and was nevertheless only allowed to study with GDR President Wilhelm Pieck after intervening because of her Christian faith . Latchinian's parents met while studying in Bulgaria . From 1975 to 1990, his father was a full professor for political economy of capitalism at the economics section of the Karl Marx University in Leipzig. After completing her doctorate and habilitation, the mother worked as a lecturer in literature at the University of Leipzig from 1970 to 1998. Haig Latchinian's older siblings are brother Sewan Latchinian (* 1961; actor, director and artistic director) and sister Kohar.

Award

On 25 August 2008 Haig Latchinian received for his LVZ series Sleepless in Muldental the German Local Journalist Award 2007, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the category Series: As a reporter, he established himself one night a week in villages of the distribution area and spoke with the people there.

“The reporter dedicates half a day and a whole night to the places in the east of the Muldental. The title of the series “Schlaflos in ...” suggests: He also turns most of the night into day, asks and listens. The reports are declarations of love to places that are beautiful and people who feel good: home to touch. "

As a result of this award, this newspaper series was published in 2008 as an independent book with the title Schlaflos - Unterwegs im Herz des Muldental .
