Alfred Jepsen

Alfred Jepsen (born March 28, 1900 in Hamburg , † December 11, 1979 in Greifswald ; full name: Alfred Thomas Christian Jepsen ) was a German Lutheran theologian and religious historian .

Life

Alfred Jepsen studied theology, ancient oriental studies and religious studies at the universities of Kiel , Leipzig and Rostock . At the latter he was promoted to Dr. phil. and 1925 for the licentiate in theology doctorate . He completed his habilitation at the University of Rostock in 1925 and then worked as a private lecturer. During this time he was politically involved in the Christian People's Service . In 1931 he received an extraordinary professorship in Rostock. In 1934 he was one of the signatories of two requests to resign from the Rostock Theological Faculty addressed to Reich Bishop Ludwig Müller . In the same year he received an honorary doctorate from the University of Rostock.

After the Second World War he was a full professor at the University of Greifswald from 1946 to 1965 . In 1950/51 and 1961/62 he was dean of the theological faculty.
