Alfred Ludwig Wieruszowski (born December 6, 1857 in Görlitz , † February 9, 1945 in Berlin ) was a German lawyer of Jewish origin, President of the Senate at the Cologne Higher Regional Court and professor at the University of Cologne .

Life

Alfred Ludwig Wieruszowski had since 1884 Richter in Cologne and became the 1902 High Court Judge appointed. From 1921 until his retirement on April 1, 1926, he was Senate President at the Cologne Higher Regional Court.

Since 1909 he worked as a lecturer at the Cologne Commercial College and in 1920 took on a teaching position as an honorary professor at the University of Cologne. Since 1924, Alfred Ludwig Wieruszowski was a member of the permanent deputation of the German Lawyers' Association . After the seizure of power and for insulting him by the National Socialists , he resigned his professorship on April 27, 1933.

In his first marriage he was married to Jenny Landsberg (* 1866), from this marriage came the daughters Lili (1899–1971) and Helene Wieruszowski (1893–1978). Alfred Ludwig Wieruszowski and his wife converted from Judaism to Protestantism . The daughters were baptized Protestants and raised Protestants.

In his second marriage he was married to Frieda Fischer from 1921 . Frieda Fischer was the widow of Adolf Fischer and, as a benefactor, was also his successor as director of the Museum for East Asian Art in Cologne .

His wife lost her director's position in 1937 because of his Jewish origins and was banned from entering the museum. In 1939, as a result of the name change ordinance, he had to take the additional first name Israel and from 1941 wear the Star of David. Their house was declared a Jewish house and they had to take in more Jewish citizens. They escaped the threat of deportation with the help of an evangelical clergyman and a Catholic professor. On October 20, 1944, however, they were expelled from their home by the Gestapo and fled to Dresden , where they found shelter with a former housemaid . His health deteriorated and he was admitted to the Jewish Hospital in Berlin in January 1945 . There he died completely disenfranchised and impoverished on February 9, 1945 and was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Berlin-Weißensee .
