Alfred Schmid
Alfred Schmid (pseudonyms: Fred Schmid , Georg Sebastian Faber ; born January 29, 1899 in Glarus (Switzerland); † December 31, 1968 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a Swiss natural scientist , inventor , philosopher and an important figure in the youth movement .
Life
After studying natural sciences, Schmid received his doctorate in Basel in 1923 and completed his habilitation one year later. His appointment as associate professor for special physical chemistry took place in 1928. Until 1932 he taught as an associate professor for physical chemistry at the University of Basel . He then lived in Berlin, where he was best known for his work in the youth movement. As the owner of a private plane, he had a reputation for being rich. In 1932 he helped the journalist Harro Schulze-Boysen to restart the editorial work, which had come to a standstill through a financial stake , due to a police action against the publisher of the youth magazine "opponent" Franz Jung . From July 1932 onwards, at least one contribution by Alfred Schmid appeared in every issue of "Opponent". For the homosexual Fred Schmid, this step into the political reality of the youth movement was also a step out of the youth movement.
He became known above all through the founding and management of the Gray Corps , an elite alliance that, like the dj.1.11 1930, split off from the German Freischar and was banned and dissolved by the National Socialists in 1934. Outwardly, Alfred Schmid was an aesthetic figure who always went elegantly and fashionably dressed. In 1961 he had a major influence on the founding of the Grau Jungenschaft . His estate is managed by Prof. Dr. Alfred Schmid Foundation, Zug / Switzerland, which also manages Die Graue Edition , a publisher founded by Dietmar Lauermann and Walter Sauer , which publishes works on philosophy, science, religion and art. Like Hans Blüher and Gustav Wyneken , Fred Schmid was one of the representatives of the youth movement who advocated “educational eros” that did not exclude sexual acts with minors.
