Alfred Schmidt-Hoepke

Alfred Schmidt-Hoepke (born June 23, 1891 in Essen ; † March 17, 1965 ) was a German writer , journalist and politician ( Reichspartei des Deutschen Mittelstandes ).

Life

Alfred Schmidt-Hoepke was born as the son of the businessman Heinrich Schmidt. After attending the secondary school in Essen, he studied economics at the universities in Bonn , Berlin and Strasbourg . In 1914 he was at the University of Strasbourg with Professor Georg Friedrich Knapp to Dr. rer. pole. PhD (Dissertation: The History of the English Monetary System in the 17th and 18th Centuries ).

Schmidt-Hoepke initially received practical political training at Friedrich Krupp AG in Essen. From 1916 he worked in the press department of the deputy general commission in Münster and in 1917 became editor of the Rheinisch-Westfälische Zeitung in Essen. A year later he switched to the journal Wirtschaftsdienst as an editor , which was affiliated with the World Economic Archive at the University of Hamburg . From here he moved to the Deutsche Bergwerkzeitung in 1921 , for which he initially worked in Essen and from 1927 as editor-in-chief and authorized signatory in Düsseldorf . He later worked for Droste Verlag . In addition to his business journalism work, he gave lectures and worked as a lecturer at universities. In addition, he worked as a book author. When publishing his works he used the pseudonyms Alfred Schmidt-Essen , Hans Tillmann , Jacques Amoureux and Frank Dollar, among others .

In the 1920s Schmidt-Hoepke joined the Reichspartei des Deutschen Mittelstandes (Economic Party), for which he was a member of the Prussian state parliament from 1928 to 1932 . From 1928 he was a member of the committee for the Prussian State Bank .

Alfred Schmidt had been married to Hanna Hoepke, the daughter of the engineer and professor Hermann Hoepke (1865–1928), since 1919 , and had two children, Werner (* 1921) and Erika (* 1931). After his marriage he was called Schmidt-Hoepke.
