Alfred Seeberg

Oskar Theodor Alfred Seeberg (* September 24 . Jul / 6. October  1863 greg. In Pedua ( Estonia ); † 9. August 1915 in Ahrenshoop ) was a German Protestant theologian .

Life

Alfred Seeberg studied theology in Dorpat after attending grammar school (member of the Corps Neobaltia). From 1890 he was a religion teacher at the secondary school for girls in Dorpat, but continued his studies at the universities of Erlangen and Leipzig in the same year . In 1891 he returned to Dorpat, received the degree of a master's degree in theology and became a pastor's assistant at the Petrikirche there.

In 1891 he became a lecturer, after his doctorate (1895) associate professor. From 1897 to 1908 he was a full professor of exegetical theology at the University of Dorpat . From 1905 to 1908 he was dean of the theological faculty. In 1908 he accepted an appointment as professor for the New Testament at the University of Rostock . In 1914 he was rector of the university there. In 1914 he became a professor at the University of Kiel .

Alfred Seeberg was married to Marie Walter (1880–1953), daughter of the pastor Reinhold Wilhelm von Walter from St. Petersburg. They had four children, the daughters Stella (1901–1979) and Doris (1903–1989) and the two sons Axel (1904–1986) and Otto (1908–1934). Her daughter Doris Oberländer geb. Seeberg worked as a sculptor in Ahrenshoop, where the Seeberg family had owned a summer house since 1910. The theologian Reinhold Seeberg was his brother, the theologian Erich Seeberg his nephew.
