Alfred Tittel (politician)

Alfred Tittel (born September 1, 1891 in Zschernitzsch ; † September 25, 1965 ) was a German metal pusher , miner , resistance fighter against National Socialism , party functionary ( KPD / KPO / SED ) and district administrator .

Life

Tittel came from the family of a farmer . After attending primary school , he worked in his parents' farm . Then he learned the trade of metal pusher and worked in Altenburg . During his apprenticeship he joined the Workers' Gymnastics and Sports Association (ATSB). He became a member of the German Metal Workers Association (DMV), and in 1907 of the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ). In 1914 he was drafted into the First World War as an army soldier , was deployed on various fronts and in 1919 dismissed as a medical sergeant . That year he founded the local freethinkers association and became its chairman. In 1920 he joined the " Union of Hand and Mind Workers " and joined the Communist Party of Germany (KPD). Since then he has worked as a miner in the Gertrud mine in Zechau . Since 1928 he chaired the works council and was also a member of the district council of his party. Because he did not agree with the political line of the party executive, he was expelled from the KPD in 1929. Tittel joined the Communist Party of Germany (Opposition) (KPO) and became its head of organization in Altenburg.

After the transfer of power to the NSDAP , he was imprisoned in the Untermaßfeld correctional facility in 1934 and then transferred to the Bad Sulza , Lichtenburg and Buchenwald concentration camps. After his release in 1939, he moved to Leipzig and participated in the resistance of the Engert / Kresse group . In 1940 he was declared an enemy of the state for " unworthy of defense ".

When the Nazi rule was eliminated, he became chairman of the newly founded KPD in the Altenburg district in July 1945 . From October 1945 he held the position of district administrator and member of the KPD district leadership. In 1950 he was relieved of his party functions, and because he was not prepared to “ self- criticize” because of his previous membership in the KPO, he was expelled from the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). He was refused an honorary pension for being persecuted by the Nazi regime (VdN). He died in 1965 after a serious illness.
