Alfred Weber (politician)

Alfred Weber (born November 19, 1923 in Linthal GL ; † March 26, 2015 ; resident in Altdorf and Rothrist ) was a Swiss politician ( FDP ).

biography

Alfred Weber studied in Zurich and Bern jurisprudence , acquired in 1950 the title of Dr. iur. and in 1951 he was admitted to the bar and notary's office in Uri. From 1951 he ran a law firm and a notary's office in Altdorf.

From 1952 to 1958 Alfred Weber politicized in the Urner district administrator (canton parliament) and was also a member of the Altdorf municipal council. In 1958 he was elected to the government council, of which he was a member until 1976. During this time he was Landammann (District President) twice . As head of the police and military directorate as well as the finance directorate, Alfred Weber was responsible in particular for the reorganization of the police system and the modernization of the cantonal financial budget.

The lawyer was elected to the National Council in 1963 as a representative of the canton of Uri . From 1967 to 1970 he was President of the FDP parliamentary group in the Federal Assembly before becoming President of the National Council in the 1970/71 office year . On November 25, 1979, he resigned from the National Council.

From 1976 to 1981 Weber was President of the Organization for the Swiss Abroad . After retiring from politics, he was, among other things, Central President of the Touring Club Switzerland from 1981 to 1987 . In 1977 he received honorary citizenship of the Uri Corporation and in 1978 of the Silenen UR community . He had already dealt with the Uri corporation in his dissertation: The legal position of the Uri corporation in the canton , Diss. Jur. Bern 1952.
