Alfred doubt

Alfred Doubt (* 1851 ; † 1920 ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and consul of Spain . Some sources, including official ones, wrongly gave him the first name Albert.

Life

All that is known about Doubt's origin and family is that she comes from the canton of Glarus . It becomes tangible with the establishment of the Malaga winery in 1877 and in 1889 with the construction of the winery building in Lenzburg , Canton Aargau . At that time he already had contacts with the Bodegas Jiménez y Lamothe in Malaga , from where he imported Malaga wines . His wines were in demand beyond the region because they were considered particularly genuine and authentic. A detailed appraisal of this has been preserved in the Apotheker-Zeitung of 1898. Doubt was married to Miranda Ludwig-Zweifel (1890–1972), who was active as a writer in her later years. The couple had two sons and a daughter.

The winery building was listed as a historical monument in 1983, but then demolished in 1991. The east-facing, one-story facade with lush, Moorish-looking paintings and the El Faro signet in the round gable has been preserved. The address is Niederlenzerstrasse 27. This almost simultaneously with the buildings of the Feldschlösschen Brewery in Rheinfelden in the period of historicism built industrial building belonged to the special design of the Wine Architecture , the bonds of the southern Spanish architectural style is detectable. The lighthouse and the El Faro figurative mark acted as the company logo . This vignette adorned advertisements, bottle labels and the stationery.

From 1896, Doubt lived in Lenzburg in the Villa Malaga in Schützenmattstrasse north of the old town, only about 100 meters from his cellar building. This residential building, which dates from 1840, was built for Luise Meyer-Rohr by the Baden architect Joseph Caspar Jeuch . Doubt had it converted for his purposes and given the name Villa Malaga to match the lavish facade at the company headquarters . On April 19, 1904, Zweifel was granted the exequatur as Honorary Consul of Spain for the consular district of the cantons of Aargau and Solothurn .
