family

Hatzfeldt came from a side line of the ancient noble family of the Hatzfeld , who held the rulership of Wildenburg-Schönstein . A hereditary seat in the Prussian mansion was associated with the state rule.

Hatzfeldt was the eldest of three children of the landlord Edmund Graf von Hatzfeld-Wildenburg-Weisweiler (1798–1874) and his wife Sophie Countess von Hatzfeldt-Trachenberg, who came from another Hatzfeld line .

On September 1, 1852, he married Gabriele Countess von Dietrichstein-Proskau-Leslie (1825–1909) in Libochowitz, Bohemia , with whom he had two children:

  • Franz (June 15, 1853; † November 3, 1910), ⚭ October 28, 1889 in London Clara Elizabeth Prentice-Huntington (1860–1928), adopted daughter of the railway baron Collis P. Huntington
  • Antonie (born September 26, 1856 - December 21, 1933), ⚭ July 2, 1885 Count Robert von Althann , member of the manor house

Since Franz and Antonies marriages remained childless, Hatzfeldt's nephew Paul Fürst von Hatzfeldt-Wildenburg became his heir.
