Alfred of Sallet

Alfred von Sallet (born July 19, 1842 in Reichau near Nimptsch , † November 25, 1897 in Berlin ) was a German numismatist .

Alfred von Sallet was the son of the writer Friedrich von Sallet and Caroline von Burgsdorff. After graduating from high school in 1862, he studied archeology and history at the University of Berlin , especially with August Boeckh and Theodor Mommsen . After receiving his doctorate in 1865, Julius Friedländer employed him at the Berlin Münzkabinett , in 1870 he was appointed assistant director, and from 1884 until his death he was director of the Münzkabinett.

In 1897 he received the medal from the Royal Numismatic Society .
