The Alice Salomon Vocational College (ASBK) is a vocational school for nutrition, education and health with a vocational high school in Bochum . The vocational college has dual and full-time school courses. The main building can be reached on foot in around ten minutes from the main train station. The school is named after Alice Salomon (1872–1948), the liberal social reformer of the German women's movement and pioneer of social work as a science.

history

Founded as an educational institution for women, the school moved into the current building on Akademiestraße in Bochum in 1964.

In 2002, as part of the school program work, the school gave itself the current name Alice-Salomon-Berufskolleg, enforced by the headmistress at the time, Helga Harder-Kühne.

In 2011, the school was among the vocational colleges in Bochum with the highest quota of women at management level: 6 of the 11 course directors were women. Even if you added the head of the school and the deputy, the quota remained the same.

On January 31, 2014, the headmistress Helga Harder-Kühne retired. In the previous 15 years she had succeeded in significantly expanding and changing the school. With the departure, a long phase of differentiation between the offer and the conception, expansion and innovation ended for the time being.

In the 2014/15 school year, the school managed with fewer rooms. The acting headmaster W. Schiller told the WAZ that the school would have too few rooms and criticized the city of Bochum for this fact. City manager Townsend replied that the city had no money to provide buildings or pavilions.

In the summer of 2015 Johannes Kohtz-Cavlak took over the management of the school - after a vacancy of 17 months.

Awards

  • In the “Skin protection in the company” competition, the butcher's trade association (FBG, Mainz) awarded the vocational school class for the film “Sales talk” (September 2008).
  • On May 17th, 2010 the school received the seal of approval for individual support from the Ministry for Schools and Further Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
  • In October 2010, the school was recognized by the Ministry for Schools and Further Education of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia as a school for physical activity in North Rhine-Westphalia 2010 .
  • The school minister of North Rhine-Westphalia Sylvia Löhrmann honored the school on September 10, 2012. This year, 10 comprehensive schools, 5 grammar schools, 3 secondary schools, 6 secondary schools, 10 vocational and advanced training colleges and 13 special schools were awarded.
  • On September 19, 2012, the school received the school development award “Good Healthy School 2012” - awarded by the Unfallkasse Nordrhein-Westfalen, Münster. The school received a bonus of 15,000 euros.
  • On November 28, 2013 the school was awarded the 2nd prize in the competition of the city of Bochum Intercultural School 2013 by Mayor Ottilie Scholz .
  • The title School of the Future was awarded to the vocational college in a ceremony on February 25, 2015. Minister Löhrmann and Lord Mayor Scholz were present. The organizers were the Nature and Environmental Protection Academy (NUA) and the Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

School degrees

Students can all degrees of secondary education , such as the high school catch up with qualification, the normal lower secondary education and the lower secondary education. Likewise, all degrees from upper secondary level such as the technical college entrance qualification and the general university entrance qualification d. H. the Abitur can be obtained. According to the school program, the teachers and students design their school as a “house of learning” in the sense of a school for young adults. You undertake to work in accordance with the requirements and goals of the Vocational College Act in order to impart "comprehensive professional, social and personal competence" to the students. School building

The school has a large outdoor area with wide green areas and an asphalt school yard. The school kiosk in the large break hall under the auditorium offers food and drinks. Pupils can also stay there during free periods. The auditorium of the Alice Salomon vocational college is one of the largest in Bochum's schools. It can accommodate over 600 people. The stage technology, the ventilation and air conditioning as well as the lighting system were overhauled and repaired.
