Career
Beginnings / Judo
Allen Coage grew up in the New York borough of Harlem in very simple circumstances. In 1961 he finally began to play judo . From 1966 Coage competed in numerous judo tournaments, where he competed in the heavyweight division. Among other things, he won the national championships of the Amateur Athletic Union several times , twice the gold medal at the Pan American Games and competed in four world championships for the USA .
In order to earn money, he kept his head above water with jobs as a doorman . In 1976 his greatest success followed in judo. Coage won the bronze medal in heavyweight at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal . To date, he is the only American who could win a medal in this weight class. Then he wanted to open his own judo school, but had to realize that there was not much money to be made with it. In 1978 he finally tried wrestling and was trained in Japan by Antonio Inoki .
Wrestling
After a brief stint at New Japan Pro Wrestling and the Worldwide Wrestling Federation , Coage finally went to Stampede Wrestling in Calgary in 1982 . He moved here and completed his wrestling training in the infamous Dungeon , the training room of legendary coach Stu Hart . He stayed with Stampede Wrestling until 1988 before joining the World Wrestling Federation as Bad News Brown . The gimmick he got here was that of an absolute loner who was neither on the side of the faces nor the heels . At Wrestlemania IV he won a Battle Royal and denied feuds against Randy Savage , Hulk Hogan , Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper in the following years .
After the Summer Slam in 1990, Coage finally left the organization and then entered on an independent level. In 1998 he ended his active career because of knee problems. From then on he worked as a security officer in a shopping center in Airdrie , as well as in wrestling as a commentator and trainer.
