history

The Swedish-American evangelist Fredrik Franson (1872–1908) gave the impetus to found the Alliance Mission in 1889 . Franson traveled all over the world from Europe to China , India and Japan to New Zealand and Australia and held so-called revival meetings , in which not only the faith was described, but also called to a decision for Christ. He preached to thousands of people in 40 countries. 14 missions and community federations trace their origin to Franson.

His visit to Germany left its mark. A Berlin newspaper wrote: The Franson and the Olson, they will not be weary to convert Berlin , the sinful city! . Influenced by Hudson Taylor , the founder of the English China Inland Mission at the time , he tried to win missionaries for China. Taylor prayed for 1,000 missionaries to China. Franson wanted to deliver the first 100 to him . Together with the Wuppertal merchant Carl Polnick , he founded a mission committee.

Soon after this committee was established, a number of young men and women volunteered to serve in China. In the autumn of 1890 Josef Bender, house painter from Frankfurt am Main , Elisabeth Bäumer, housemaid from Wuppertal , and Auguste Schnütgen, daughter of a merchant family from Barmen, were the first missionaries of the Allianz mission to leave with little luggage. This was outraged in the home religious circles for various reasons - some:

  • There was no theologian on the committee.
  • The mission sent without any financial security.
  • A woman as a missionary.

By the end of World War II , over 100 missionaries had been sent to China.

Mission understanding

  • Mission learns its justification from the commission and salvation work of Jesus Christ .
  • The content of the proclamation is given once and for all normatively in the New Testament .
  • The goal of mission is God's salvation for the whole person.
  • Mission leads to church planting.
  • Mission is the responsibility of the congregation and not of a mission society or a private group of friends.
  • The motivation for world mission arises from the commissioning of Jesus Christ, the love for the people who live without Jesus, and the conviction that Jesus Christ will come again as Lord and Judge of all humanity.
