Almuth Herbst (* in Bocholt as Almuth Hischemöller ) is a German opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ) and author .

Life

Herbst grew up as the youngest of six children in Bocholt . She took violin lessons from the age of four. After graduating from the Euregio-Gymnasium Bocholt , she first studied theology (church examination) at the WWU Münster and then singing. Today she lives with her family in the Münsterland.

After studying theology, Herbst began singing training with Kammersänger Reinhard Leisenheimer at the Cologne University of Music. She received scholarships for master classes with Kurt Moll , Ingeborg Hallstein , Siegfried Jerusalem , Konrad Richter and Breda Zakotnic (Salzburg) and Tamara Novichenko (St. Petersburg). She completed her concert exam at the Messiaen Academy in the Netherlands with Anne Haenen.

Soloist concert engagements with the WDR Radio Choir and -Orchester, SWR, Radio 4 of the Netherlands and orchestras of the Music Factory NRW, the Baden-Baden Philharmonic, the Orchestra of the Municipal Theater Hagen, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen and the Nederlands Bach Ensemble led them u. a. on the stages of the Philharmonie Essen , the Konzerthaus Dortmund , the Beethovenhalle in Bonn, the Jahrhunderthalle and de Spiegel in Zwolle , NL.

In 2016 she opened the Wernigerode Castle Festival with “ El amor brujo ” by Manuel de Falla under the direction of Gheorghe Costin .

On the opera stage, the mezzo-soprano worked with the directors Willy Decker , Jan Peter , Elisabeth Stöppler , Alexander von Pfeil , Ingo Kerkhof , Roland Schwab , Michiel Dijkema , Michael Schulz, Dietrich Hilsdorf , Philipp Stölzl , Dominique Horwitz and Thilo Reinhardt .

Guest engagements have taken her to the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover , the Konzert Theater Bern, the Munster Municipal Theaters , the Grand Théatre de la Ville de Luxembourg , the Aalto Theater in Essen, the Graz Opera, the Dortmund Opera , the Ruhrtriennale , and the Bonn Opera . She sang at the world premiere of works by Samir Odeh-Tamimi , Gustavo Trujillo, Sidney Corbett and Ulrich Schultheiss .

Since the 2008/09 season she has been a member of the solo ensemble at the Musiktheater im Revier , Gelsenkirchen, where she a. a. as Brangäne ( Tristan und Isolde ), Dulcinée ( Don Quichotte ), Muse / Nicklausse ( Hoffmann's stories ) and as Mère Marie ( Dialoges des Carmélites ) were successful.

She has an artistic relationship with the Dutch pianist Marien van Nieukerken , who headed the song classes in Amsterdam, The Hague and at the ArteZ Conservatorium Zwolle. In 2002 the duo toured North America with concerts in New York , Brunswick and the Hudson Opera House.
