Michiel Dijkema
Michiel Dijkema is a Dutch opera director and set designer.
Live and act
Dijkema studied piano with Danièle Dechenne at the "JP Sweelinck" Academy of Music in Amsterdam and with Alexander Warenberg and Alwin Bär at the Utrecht University of the Arts . He then studied music theater directing at the Hanns Eisler Music Academy in Berlin . He worked as a song accompanist and attended the song classes of Thom Bollen in Utrecht and Wolfram Rieger in Berlin . Michiel Dijkema directed university productions in Amsterdam, Utrecht and Berlin while still a student. For his diploma thesis (2003) Dijkema secured the rights to the German premiere of the large Viennese version of the operetta La Périchole by Jacques Offenbach .
Dijkema has been a director on European opera stages since 2005. His imaginative and tricky productions, for which he usually also designs the stage design, have already won several awards. He works regularly with the costume designer Claudia Damm on productions.
Dijkema lives in Amsterdam. He rode his bike from Amsterdam a. a. to Rome , Santiago de Compostela , Venice , Vienna , London , Barcelona and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer .
