Aloe africana is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla plants (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet africana refers to the occurrence of the species in Africa.

Vegetative characteristics
Aloe africana usually grows individually and forms an upright trunk up to 4 meters in length. Its approximately 30 spread or bent back leaves form a dense rosette . Dead leaves are persistent. The cloudy green to blue leaf blade is 65 centimeters long and 12 centimeters wide. The upper side of the leaf is bare or covered with a few, reddish thorns near the leaf tip. The underside is also covered in the middle near the tip with reddish thorns. The pricking teeth on the edge of the leaf are 4 to 5 millimeters long and 15 millimeters apart.
Inflorescences and flowers
The inflorescence consists of two to four branches and reaches a height of 60 to 80 centimeters. The dense, cylindrical-tapered grapes are 40 to 60 centimeters long and 10 to 12 centimeters wide. The ovate-lanceolate bracts have a length of 11 millimeters and are 7 to 8 millimeters wide. The yellow to yellow-orange flowers are on 5 to 6 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 55 millimeters long and rounded at their base. They have a diameter of 5 to 6 millimeters at the level of the ovary . Above this, the flowers are expanded to 8 millimeters towards the mouth. Your tepals are not fused together over a length of 19 millimeters. The stamens and the pen stand 15 to 20 millimeters out of flowering.
Systematics and distribution
Aloe africana is widespread in the South African province of Eastern Cape , mainly in bushy and shrubby places.
The first description by Philip Miller was published in 1768.
