description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe elkerriana grows trunk-forming and branches from the base. The prostrate or usually drooping trunks reach a length of 3 to 5 meters. The twelve to 23 lanceolate leaves form open rosettes . Their grayish green, smooth leaf blades are 20 to 30 inches long and 4.5 inches wide. On the underside of the leaf there are small whitish spots on young shoots. The whitish-pink teeth on the leaf margin are 1 to 2 millimeters long and 4 millimeters apart. They are further apart towards the tip of the leaf. The leaf juice is yellow-orange in color. It almost dries black.

Inflorescences and flowers

The crooked inflorescence consists of four to five branches and reaches a length of 50 to 60 centimeters. The rather loose, cylindrical grapes consist of single-sided flowers and are 10 to 15 centimeters long. The bracts have a length of 5 millimeters. The dark coral-red flowers are yellow at their mouth and stand on 10 to 17 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 25 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 5 millimeters. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 12 millimeters. The stamens and the pen stand 4 millimeters out from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe elkerriana is widespread in Ethiopia near El Kerré on cliffs at an altitude of 1000 meters. The species is only known from the locality of the type.

The first description by Maurizio Dioli and Thomas A. McCoy was published in 2007.
