Aloe gillettii is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodill family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet gilletti honors the British botanist Jan Bevington Gillett .

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe gillettii grows trunk-forming and is sparsely branched. The prostrate trunks have a length of about 30 centimeters and are 5 to 10 millimeters thick. The linear-lanceolate leaves form loose rosettes . The dark gray-green leaf blade is up to about 15 inches long and 1.5 inches wide. There are many whitish spots on it. The cartilaginous teeth on the edge of the leaf are 1 millimeter long and 3 to 5 millimeters apart. The leaf sap is dry purple in color.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of up to 25 centimeters. The loose grapes are 3 to 5 inches long and consist of eight to twelve flowers. The egg-shaped, pointed, white bracts have a length of 4 to 5 millimeters and are 2 millimeters wide. The coral-red, green-tipped flowers are on stems up to 10 millimeters long . The flowers are 20 to 26 millimeters long. At the level of the ovary , the flowers are 7 millimeters in diameter. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 6 to 8 millimeters. The stamens and the style stick out about 2.5 millimeters from the flower.

Aloe gillettii is widespread in the north-east of Somalia in the bushland on rocky limestone slopes at heights of 1340 to 1650 meters.
