Aloe parallelifolia is a species of aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet parallelifolia is derived from the Latin words parallelus for 'parallel' and -folius for 'leafed' and refers to the shape of the leaves.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe parallelifolia grows trunk-forming, branches sparsely from the base and forms compact groups. Their upright shoots are up to 4 inches long. The four to seven linear leaves form loose rosettes . The cloudy olive-green leaf blade is 15 centimeters long and 1 centimeter wide. The tip of the blade is rounded. There are four to five light brown teeth on it. The light brown teeth on the leaf margin are up to 2 millimeters long and are 4 to 8 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 30 to 40 centimeters. The loose to almost heady, cylindrical grapes consist of 12 to 18 flowers. The lanceolate-pointed bracts are fleshy at their base and are 10 millimeters long and 4 millimeters wide. The rose-pink to rose- red , slightly bell-shaped flowers are almost white at their mouth. They stand on 30 millimeter long flower stalks . The flowers are 30 millimeters long and narrowed briefly at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 5 millimeters, above they are expanded to 8 millimeters up to their mouth. Your tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the style protrude up to 1 millimeter from the flower.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe parallelifolia is widespread in Madagascar on quartzite mountains at altitudes of 1800 to 2000 meters.

The first description by Henri Perrier de La Bâthie was published in 1926.

Aloe parallelifolia is listed in Appendix I of the Washington Convention on Endangered Species .
