description

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe tewoldei grows in a stem-forming manner. The spreading to hanging shoots reach a length of up to 50 centimeters and are 0.6 centimeters thick. The oblong, lanceolate, semi-stemmed leaves are scattered along the shoots. The gray-green, indistinctly spotted leaf blade is up to 13.5 centimeters (rarely up to 23 centimeters) long and 1.5 to 2 centimeters (rarely up to 2.2 centimeters) wide. The white teeth on the edge of the leaf are about 0.5 millimeters long and 2 to 3 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

Section from an inflorescence

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of about 30 centimeters. The loose, cylindrical grapes are about 27 centimeters long. The bracts have a length of about 4 millimeters and are 2 millimeters wide. The glaucous orange flowers are pointed greenish and stand on peduncles about 12 millimeters long . They are 20 millimeters long, have a diameter of 7 millimeters and are trimmed at their base. Your outer tepals are not fused together over a length of 4 to 5 millimeters. The stamens and the stylus barely protrude from the flower.

Systematics and distribution

Aloe tewoldei is common in the south of Ethiopia on areas of limestone cliffs.

The first description by Michael George Gilbert and Sebsebe Demissew was published in 1997.
