Aloe vossii is a species of the genus Aloes in the subfamily of the Affodilla family (Asphodeloideae). The specific epithet vossii honors a certain Harold Voss.

Vegetative characteristics

Aloe vossii grows without a stem or with a very short stem, sprouts and forms small groups. The 14 to 20 long narrow leaves are arranged in many rows. The deep green leaf blade is up to 50 centimeters long and 3 centimeters wide. On the surface of the leaf there are several, scattered, elongated, whitish spots. The spots are sometimes almost warty and finely prickly. On the underside of the leaf, there are numerous spots near the base, which often have a firm, white spine. The firm, white teeth on the very narrow, cartilaginous, white leaf margin are 2 millimeters long and are 2 to 4 millimeters apart.

Inflorescences and flowers

The simple inflorescence reaches a length of 50 centimeters. The dense, heady grapes are about 8 inches long and 7 inches wide. The egg-shaped, pointed bracts are 16 millimeters long and 11 millimeters wide. The scarlet flowers are on 30 millimeter long peduncles . The flowers are 28 millimeters long and rounded at their base. At the level of the ovary , the flowers have a diameter of 8 to 9 millimeters. In addition, they are slightly narrowed towards their mouth. Your tepals are not fused together. The stamens and the style protrude up to 1 millimeter from the flower.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Aloe vossii is widespread in South Africa on the Soutpansberg between rocks on grassland at altitudes of 1200 to 1800 meters.
