Alois Karl (2012)

Alois Karl (born November 22, 1950 in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz ) is a German politician ( CSU ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005 . From 1990 to 2005 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate.

Life and work

After graduating from high school , Karl studied law and economics at the University of Regensburg , which he completed with the first state examination in law. During his studies Karl became a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Rupertia Regensburg in the Cartell Association . After his legal clerkship , he passed the second state examination in 1979 and initially worked as a lawyer in Nuremberg . From 1981 to 1990 he finally headed the legal office of the city of Neumarkt.

Alois Karl is married and has two daughters. His cousin is Herbert Fischer, a former member of the CSU state parliament .

Since 2015 he has been chairman of the CSU district association Neumarkt idOPf.

MP

He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2005 . Alois Karl has entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the constituency of Amberg . In the 2013 Bundestag election, he achieved 58.4% of the first votes .

He has been a full member of the Budget Committee since 2009. From 2009 to 2013 he was a member of the Committee on European Union Affairs; he has been a deputy member there since 2013. He is also deputy chairman of the local politics working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. Since 2010 he has been a member of the European subcommittee of the budget committee of the German Bundestag; since 2013 he has been deputy chairman there. He has been a member of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly since 2010. Since 2014 he has been chairman of the German-Baltic parliamentary group of the German Bundestag.

Since 2013 he has been a deputy member of the municipal subcommittee of the German Bundestag's interior committee.

He was a full member of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid from 2005 to 2009, of the Interior Committee from 2005 to 2009 and of the Petitions Committee of the German Bundestag from 2007 to 2009.

In the 19th German Bundestag , Karl is the chairman of the sub-committee for questions relating to the European Union. He is a full member of the Budget Committee and an alternate member of the Committee on European Union Affairs.

On September 14, 2009, he caused a sensation when he was showered with milk by a farmer's wife during a demonstration by farmers against low milk prices in Trautmannshofen and reciprocated with a slap in the face.

In July 2020 he announced that he no longer wanted to run for further legislative periods of the Bundestag from 2021.

Public offices

Alois Karl has been a member of the district council of the Neumarkt district in Upper Palatinate since 1984 . From 1990 to 2005 Karl was Lord Mayor of the large district town of Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate. Alois Karl was a member of the Neumarkt City Council from 1978 to 1980 and from 2008 to 2010 .

Alois Karl is a member of the non-partisan European Union Germany , which advocates a federal Europe and the European unification process.

Alois Karl is a member of the board of the German Africa Foundation .

Honors

2015: Honorary citizenship in Neumarkt.
