Aloys Müller (born March 22, 1892 in Schmitten ; † January 12, 1979 in Freiburg im Üechtland ) was a Swiss physiologist .

Life

Family and education

Professional background

After completing his studies, Aloys Müller took up a position as an assistant doctor in Basel , and in 1924 he opened a practice for general medicine in Freiburg im Üechtland. In 1938, Müller accepted the call to an extraordinary professorship for physiology at the University of Freiburg . A year later he was promoted to full professor and held the management of the Physiological Institute, in 1964 he resigned from these functions. In the same year, Aloys Müller founded the Research Institute for Cardio-Angiology, of which he was director until 1978.

The main focus of Aloys Müller's research was on experimental and theoretical-analytical research into hemodynamics and blood pressure measurement , initially as a general practitioner in his own private laboratory, then at the university, where he initiated an actual school of cardiovascular researchers. Aloys Müller received the Marcel Benoist Prize in 1930 , the Karl Ludwig Medal of the German Society for Circulatory Research in 1960 , and in 1958 he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel .
