Aloysius Franz Steppuhn (born June 19, 1950 in Hemer ) is a German local politician ( CDU ). From 1999 to 2009 he was the full-time district administrator of the Märkisches Kreis .

education and profession

After completing secondary school in 1966 at Iserlohn Secondary School, Aloys Steppuhn began his working life in the public sector when he was doing an internship at what was then the Iserlohn district . Two years later he became a district inspector candidate and, as a youth representative, was also appointed a member of the staff council. Aloys Steppuhn, who now lives with his wife in Bredenbruch , has held management positions in the district administration since April 1971 . He was promoted to head of the administrative office of the district council, the district press office, the district election office and the offices for the district director and the district administrator. He has also been the head of the department for central affairs since then.

In 1988 he switched to the road traffic office of the Märkisches Kreis, whose Lüdenscheid office he was now in charge of. A year later he was promoted to head of the Road Traffic Department.

From August 1998, Aloys Steppuhn was responsible for social affairs, youth, sports and health as the social department of the Märkisches Kreis.

Political career

Aloys Steppuhn is a member of the CDU . In the local elections in 1999 he was elected the first directly elected District Administrator of the Märkisches Kreis. With 52.58% he won against his predecessor Klaus Tweer (SPD), who was in office between 1994 and 1999 . Five years later he decided the election again with an absolute majority (52.48%) in the first ballot. In April 2008, the CDU politician announced that he would no longer be available for the 2009 election for health reasons. In the local elections on August 30, 2009, Thomas Gemke (CDU) was elected Steppuhn's successor as district administrator.

In the function of the district administrator, Aloys Steppuhn was responsible for founding the ARGE Märkischer Kreis and at the same time advocated the modernization of the district administration, for example through a central building management. Steppuhn is also one of the initiators of the Regionale 2013 , which was awarded to South Westphalia . Aloys Steppuhn also holds a number of executive board positions, some of which are voluntary. He is chairman of the supervisory board of the Society for Economic and Structural Development in the Märkischer Kreis mbH . From 2006 to 2013 he was President of the Sauerland Mountain Club . The district association Märkischer Kreis in the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V. , he chairs the board of directors of the Westfälisch-Lippische pension fund. In the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe , he sits on various committees and is deputy chairman of the landscape assembly . Between 1992 and 1998 he was chairman of the German Red Cross Iserlohn-Land.
