Alphonse Verwimp

Alphonse Verwimp SJ (born May 22, 1885 in Geel , Belgium ; † October 11, 1964 ) was a Belgian religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Kisantu .

Life

Alphonse Verwimp joined the Congregation of the Jesuits in and received on 17 May 1917, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On June 23, 1931, Pope Pius XI appointed him . the titular of Uccula and for the first Vicar Apostolic Kisantu. The Archbishop of Mechelen , Cardinal Jozef-Ernest Van Roey , donated him episcopal ordination on October 28 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Namur , Thomas Louis Heylen OPraem , and the auxiliary bishop in Mechelen, Jean Marie Van Cauwenbergh .

Alphonse Verwimp became the first bishop of Kisantu on November 10, 1959 as a result of the elevation of the Apostolic Vicariate Kisantu to the diocese . On October 27, 1960, Pope John XXIII. the resignation put forward by Verwimp and appointed him titular bishop of Gibba .

Verwimp participated in the first and second session of the Second Vatican Council .
