Alphonsus Castermans
Alphonsus Maria HA Castermans (born April 4, 1924 in Maastricht , Netherlands ; † April 21, 2008 in Born ) was auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Roermond from 1982 to 1997 .
Life
Alphonsus Castermans received the in Roermond on 10 March 1951 sacrament of the priesthood by Bishop Guillaume Lemmens . Until 1958 he was chaplain in Molenberg, a district of Heerlen , later rector of the hospital "De Goddelijke Voorzienigheid" in Sittard . In 1972 he became vicar general in the diocese of Roermond. In 1973 he became a member of the cathedral chapter .
Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Skálholt and auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of Roermond on January 15, 1982 . The bishop of Roermond, Joannes Baptist Matthijs Gijsen , donated him episcopal consecration on February 13 of the same year. Co- consecrators were Johannes Bluyssen , Bishop of 's-Hertogenbosch , and Adrianus Johannes Simonis , Bishop of Rotterdam .
Pope John Paul II accepted his early resignation on May 3, 1997. He was buried in the Sint Christoffelkathedraal in Roermond.
