At the 1st Alpine World Ski Championships in Mürren in Switzerland in 1931 , a competition in the special downhill , also known as the long downhill , was held for women . This took place on February 21, 1931 on the Grütsch - Lauterbrunnen route .

The FIS does not count the "long" descent as an official world championship discipline.

British woman Esmé MacKinnon had to stop on the way to let a funeral train pass by. The time you had achieved until then was stopped. After the procession she was able to continue. The two times were added up and although she had lost a few seconds by stopping and starting, she still crossed the finish line as the fastest. A protest brought in by the Austrians, according to whom the waiting time during the procession should have been included, was rejected in the interests of fairness.
